About me and Southcode

Early Years

Juan Manuel García del Moral was born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Juan spent many years after his high-school graduation studing the different linux distributions since the begining of the open-source wave in his country.
In March 2001, Juan became a C/PHP/BASH programmer at a national company (HOTELNET SRL) dedicated to bring managed linux-based network solutions to the Hotel Industry in many countries (Argentina,Chile,Uruguay,México, Brasil). In this company, Juan Manuel has developed a brand-new Internet accouting with a captive portal for the first class hotel rooms. He has also improved a LAN Manager System for the coporative LAN in these hotels, allowing the LAN Manager to easily configure the Gateway settings, manage the corporative mail accounts, set web-filters, audit the internet usage, control the bandwidth, etc. already developed by this company.
In March of 2002, Juan Manuel leave HOTELNET and continue his researchs in the open source world.

Southcode Servers & Systems born

In August of 2004, one of the founders of HOTELNET (Norberto Mayo) calls Juan Manuel to start an new project related with the Hotel Industry. This is the begining of Southcode Servers & Systems, and Magitec SRL. After the first meeting with Norberto, Juan Manuel calls and old friend (Ivan Goldin) to make a partnership.
In September of 2004, Juan Manuel an Ivan start the development of the Kamchatka Linux Distribution. The main goal of this product, was the development of a slackware-based, secure, business and end-user oriented linux distrubution, easily to install for any sales agent, and easy to manage remotely.
The Kamchatka Linux Distribution, was the first Southcode Servers & Systems creation, property and copyright of MAGITEC SRL.
In February of 2005, Southcode S&S has opened it first office.

 

Kamchatka gets momentum

In June of 2005, After installing the KLD in the main hotels of the country, a Multinational Network Provider (IFX/Tutopia) has taken the Kamchatka Project to make it grow, and Juan Manuel was hired to be its project leader.
As Project Leader, Juan Manuel has been designated to be in charge of training the technicians and sales agents, the support tech-support processes workflow In Buenos Aires and Bogotá (Colombia), and the development of the product new features.

 

Southcode Servers & Systems open its horizons

In July of 2005, responding to the demands of the market, Southcode has created a Web Development Team. The members of this Development Team were Juan Manuel and Nicolas Horacio Kosciuk, an experienced PHP4/5 programmer with very good skills. The contribution of NHK as programmer and human being in Southcode has determined its future and success. They has called this project: Southcode Development

Southcode Servers & Systems / Development grows

In July of 2006, Juan Manuel meets Romina Paula Pampin, an excelent human being with a very creative mind. She was at first designated to be in charge of the public relationships and project hunter in this country. As NHK, her contribution as professional and human being in Southcode has also determined its future an success. Nowadays, Romina Pampin is an active member of the Web Design Team of Southcode.

In November of 2006, Southcode needs to hire new programmers. The first programmer in being hired was Martin Mednick, a young and excelent programmer. After his leaving for study reasons, Southcode has started hiring programmers in Perú, with excelent results. After the growing of the development team, Southcode has been working for customers in Italy, Spain, Argentina, México and United States

In March 2007, Juan Manuel starts studing for the CISSP (Security certification) at CentralTech, a local institute.

Southcode Global IT Resources

In April 2007, Southcode has started offering the following services:

  • Security Consulting
  • Dedicated IT Human Resources
  • Outsourcing

In August 2007, Juan Manuel starts the development of a training for the State of Morón City, in order to help then migrating from MS Windows XP to Linux (Ubuntu)
